Gerhard Richter – Neun Objekte, 1969
Offset print on cardboard,
9 parts, 44,5 x 44,5 cm (each)
In 1969, Gerhard Richter created this series of nine offset prints on cardboard, based on photographs of self-made wooden objects. They depict geometric wooden constructions which appear as impossible objects with visual illusions that seem at first unfathomable to the viewer and which require close observation.
The artist expressed his view on the relationship between reality and deception in an interview as follows: "I don't mistrust reality, of which I know next to nothing. I mistrust the picture of reality conveyed to us by our senses, which is imperfect and circumscribed." – Gerhard Richter, 1972
