Tauba Auerbach – A Half Times A Half Times A Half (Fine) / A Half Times A Half Times A Half (Coarse), 2008
2 color aquatint etchings
99 x 78 cm (each)
Already in the cryptic work title "A Half Times A Half Times A Half (Coarse) / A Half Times A Half Times A Half (Fine)" of the prints created in 2008, the artist Tauba Auerbach challenges the logical and linguistic systems of our everyday understanding.
The work is defined by a rectangular white area, which is arbitrarily filled with small colourful squares. Based on the standardized inks cyan, magenta, yellow and black, and their overlapping in the four-colour process printing results in a total of seven possible colours.
With this work Auerbach explores a new poetic level of the standardized printing process, which is used in almost all modern techniques for creating coloured illustrations.
