Out of interest in how art objects gain importance through their context and travel, Walead Beshty first began producing his famous FedEx works in 2007. They are composed of glass or copper items that are packaged in standard FedEx freight boxes which are shipped around the world with FedEx's Express Service. The packaging is part of the work as well as its sculptural content. Also the FedEx consignment notes, customs documents and all shipping labels are considered part of the work.
The glass works are shipped unprotected, so that the signs of wear from their transport routes becomes visible. With his FedEx works, Beshty creates installations that are organized around their traffic and manifest visually through their movement from one place to another.
The title of the work is expanded with each new location where its exhibited. The full current title is:
